Valencia Periodontal Therapy

Oral pathogens often trigger chronic systemic diseases that could lead to other more serious complications such as acute coronary syndrome or fatal myocardial attack. Dental plaque consists of different subgingival microbial complexes that colonize the biofilm and destroy the protective enzymes (amylase) that fight disease and decay. If these organisms are not removed, they will lead to the lysis (ultimate loss) of permanent teeth and residual supporting bone strength and turgor.

Arestin® Antibiotic Therapy

Your dental professional will place these microspheres into infected areas after completing your SRP. Getting ARESTIN® is painless. ARESTIN will dissolve on its own, so no removal is required. ARESTIN® is different from an antibiotic you take as a pill, because it’s placed right where you need it. A pill can’t give you the level of antibiotic concentration in your gums that ARESTIN® can. ARESTIN® contains microspheres (tiny particles) that are not visible to the naked eye. The microspheres contain minocycline hydrochloride. These microspheres release the antibiotic over time, killing bacteria so your gums can heal better than with SRP alone. After ARESTIN® with SRP, there are a few things you need to know. Follow these tips on caring for your teeth. With proper dental hygiene, it’s possible to avoid future problems with your gums.

Laser Bacterial Decontamination

When periodontal disease develops, the pathologic bacteria can become embedded in the gum line, creating an infection. In addition to affecting the gum, ligament, and bone, this bacterium can enter the bloodstream and influence systemic health conditions. A laser may be recommended to treat your periodontal infection. The laser uses light energy to target only the causative bacteria and infected gum tissue. The desired result is healthier, shallow pockets. A laser can be used in the removal of oral mucosa that causes abnormal irritation or pain. This is a minimally invasive procedure that requires little to no local anesthetic.

Gum Disease Testing

The salivary diagnostic test identifies the type and concentration of specific perio-pathogenic bacteria that are known to cause periodontal disease while also helping Dr. Neda with better risk assessment and personalized treatment options for more predictable outcomes.

Who should be tested:

• Patients presenting with signs and symptoms of a periodontal infection
• Patients with pockets of 4mm or greater with clinical signs of a periodontal infection
• Patients with chronic periodontal disease who do not respond positively to current treatment
• Patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
• Patients with a history of cardiovascular disease
• Patients who use tobacco products
• Patients who will undergo surgical procedures or radiation treatment
• Can be used for establishing a “baseline” for any patient who may be at increased risk for periodontal infections
• Patients who test positive for genetic susceptibility with the salivary test
• Women of childbearing age
